Hiking / Trekking
If you want to see more parts of the vaser valley besides the forestry railway, just start a hiking or trekking tour of two or more days. The first and most important step is to have a detailed preparation. Therefor you have to take account of the following rules and procedures:
- Must have: the hike trails map of the natural preserve „Vaser Valley“ (available at the station Viseu de Sus)
- solid physical condition and hiking experience
- equipped with good shoes, rain protection and warm clothing
- never hike alone!
- equipped with tent and sleeping bag
- fitted up with self-sufficient food (there are no shopping facilities)
- recognize border controls, take your passport/ID-card along
- if any problems occur, walk to the nearest CFF station or Bei Problemen zur nächsten Bahn- oder Forststation gehen (Funkverbindung)
- No networka for cellphones!
- Please avoid close walking to the Ukrainian border
- Be careful with unattented sheperd’s dogs
- preferable self supply with water from springs (look at your map)
- take care for the nature (biosphere reserve!)
There are no real hiking trails (with markings) within the vaser valley, but due to “sheperds trails” and forestry paths you may always find a way – together with a sound map!
Some possible hiking routes are:
- Borsa – Toroiaga (1930m) – Macarlau – Faina (may be continued via Bardau – Pietrosul Bardau (1850m) to Poienile de Sub Munte). This is the only route with waypoint markings.
- Faina – Novicior – Station Novicior CFF
- Viseu de Sus – Valea Pestilor – Pietrosul Bardau (1850m) – Bardau CFF
- Delta Novat – Ihoasa – Moisei
