Swiss Non Profit association

Since 2000 the Swiss association „Hilfe für die Wassertalbahn“, located in Bern/Switzerland gets involved at the forestry railway of Viseu de Sus. The officially in Switzerland registered association is according to their articles aimed to „support the CFF Viseu de Sus with materiel, financially, and with logistics and to prevent from abandonment. In particular the operation of steam locomotives shall be enabled for the future.”

The association „Hilfe für die Wassertalbahn“ closely cooperates with the Romanian Corporations „CFF Viseu de Sus“ and „R.G.Holz Company”. The association holds more than 300 members worldwide and provides a highly visited website www.wassertalbahn.ch. Highlighted projects and support programmes:

  • In May 2005 the almost 100 year old steam loco 764.211 “Mariuta”, for years departed at a open air museum was returned into service at CFF Viseu de Sus. The swiss association purchased all refurbishment works.
  • Since 2005 several historic passenger and observation carriages were refurbished or new constructed.
  • In Autumn 2006 the steam traffic at the Vaser River Railway could be stabilized due to the acquisition of the new revised steam loco 764.421 „Elvetia“.
  • The forestry railway and their employees were periodically supported with relief goods (working clothes, tools etc.). It was very helpful and neccessary especially past to the flood disasters in 2001 and 2008.
  • In Summer 2008 the association purchased three swiss passenger cars and let them reconvert for the needs of the forestry railway.
  • The organization of the railway tourism at the CFF Viseu de Sus was initiated and built by the swiss association.
  • End of 2008 the association purchased all the work to construct a double-tracked carriage depot to park railway vehicles weatherproof.
  • Due to international public relations conducted by the association, in the meantime the CFF Viseu de Sus is worldwide known and is pleased to have permanently growing numbers of visitors.
